Polymer is one of the largest ongoing costs in sludge dewatering—but simply adding more polymer doesn't always deliver better results. Conventional mixing methods can introduce shear that damages floc, increase chemical consumption, and contribute to inconsistent cake solids and higher operating costs.

In this webinar, discover a different approach to sludge conditioning and dewatering with the patented [P6 PolyMix™ System](https://discflo.com/pumps-products/p6-polymix-system/).

The P6 injects polymer before the pump and uses Discflo's shear-free viscous drag technology to mix polymer and sludge inside the pump. This approach eliminates the need for conventional high-shear mixing and blending equipment while helping preserve floc structure and polymer integrity.

We'll explore how the P6 can integrate into existing wastewater dewatering systems—including belt filter presses, centrifuges, screw presses, and thickeners—and how facilities can use the technology to reduce polymer consumption, improve cake dryness, lower operating pressure, and minimize maintenance.

Whether you're trying to reduce chemical costs, improve dewatering performance, or eliminate recurring pump and mixing problems, this webinar will show how rethinking the polymer/sludge mixing process can have a significant impact on your operation.

Key Takeaways

| | How the patented P6 PolyMix™ process works, including direct polymer injection and shear-free, in-pump mixing using Discflo viscous drag technology. |
| --- | --- |
| | Why conventional polymer limits dewatering performance and how shear can affect floc formation and polymer efficiency. |
| | How the P6 can integrate with existing dewatering equipment, including belt filter presses, centrifuges, screw presses, gravity belt thickeners, rotary drum thickeners, and clarifiers. |
| | How facilities reduce polymer consumption by 25–50% while maintaining or improving dewatering performance. |
| | How eliminating tight tolerances, impellers, and conventional mixing equipment can reduce clogging, maintenance, and lifecycle costs. |

## Why Discflo Pumps for Municipal Wastewater?

Municipal water facilities face relentless pumping challenges—clogging, cavitation, abrasive wear, and unplanned downtime caused by stringy solids, rags, grit, air entrainment, and viscous sludge. Discflo pumps‬ are engineered specifically for these harsh conditions. Powered by patented disc pump technology, Discflo uses precision-machined, discs to create boundary-layer adhesion and viscous drag—inducing smooth, laminar flow that gently moves material without impingement, grinding, or clogging.

## Non-Pulsating, Laminar Flow

Through viscous drag, fluid is pulled through the pump without impingement. The boundary layer attracts and drags successive layers of fluid molecules into layered flows of parallel streams. This is the simple principle of viscous drag, and, in the Discflo disc pump, it is a powerful dynamic force that “pulls” the fluid through the pump in a smooth, laminar, non-turbulent flow.

The non-impingement and laminar flow pumping of the disc pump is similar to flow through an ordinary pipe. The layers of fluid at the walls are stationary (relative to the rotating discs), creating a protective boundary layer. Viscous drag pulls layers into flows of smooth laminar streams.
